Through senior tournaments a golfer can continue their golfing career and still enjoy the excitement of competion. Today many senior players compete in the events which are held both in the United States as well as in other countried, with the result that many of them have become even more well known.

The first tour to include senior events was the PGA back in 1980. Today this tour is the most popular American Championship. It now boasts five major championships which have three events in each. As long as a player is fifty years of age, or older, they can participate and they can enjoy the recognition that they deserve thanks to the fact that, along with other organizations, the PGA tournament currently hold a number of events that are specifically intended for senior golfers.

Initially, the Championship did not include five major chapionships. These have become part of it over the past two decades. As already stated, the senior golf tournament was started in 1980 by the PGA and the US Senior Open. In 1983 the Senior Players Championship became a part of the tournament. The tradition joined six years later in 1989. It was followed four years after that in 1993 by the Senior British Open Championship.

Despite what many people believe, the PGA Senior Tournament was not the first Championship to include senior events. In fact, senior chapionships have been around for more than eighty years. However, when well known golfing greats such as Gary Player and Arnold Palmer joined the tour, that is when it began to attract much more attention and became a tournament championship in its own right. It also caught the attention of other senior golfers who still enjoyed the thrill of the competition and were not ready to retire from the sport that they love.

Winners of the senior golf tournaments include both American players as well as international players. Holding the most titles for senior major wins is well known golfer, Jack Nicklaus. His total is eight. And with eighteen wins under his belt Nicklaus also holds the regular major win title, which he achieved in the early years of his golfing career. But ack Nicklaus shares the winner’s circle with some other familiar names in the golfing world, among them is Jay Haas. He won the Senior PGA Championship. Bruce Vaughan beat the competition and went on to win the Senior British Open title. Eduardo Romero was victorious at the US Senior Open.

Senior golf tournament winners are excellent golfers and they are over the age of 50. There are many people who love to play golf when they get older and these events allow you to continue playing and winning trophies. Many of these events are included in the most popular tournaments known around the world which include the U.S. Open, the PGA Championship, and more. Seniors have been included in the game since the 1980s when the well known golfers began to turn the age of when they were in their own league.
