How To Correct That Fat Golf Shot and Strike The Ball Solid
Posted by Sidney Miller in Golf Books
Do you hit a lot of fat golf shots? If so, don’t worry because curing the fat golf shot is not very difficult. More than likely, what is happening is your back shoulder is dipping towards the ground on your downswing. You may or may not realize it but that is what is happening. The fat golf shot often occurs when a golfer is trying to really hit the ball hard to get some extra distance.
Now, go get your favorite club so we can see how to correct the fat golf shot. Take your club back and stop at the top of the backswing. In order to gain extra distance on the ball a golfer will move his hips horizontally towards the ball to generate more power. This causes the back shoulder to dip slightly and often causes the fat golf shot.
Ok, so we know what causes our fat golf shots. Now what can we do to correct it? The key to correcting the fat golf shot is keeping our hips very still so they do not move horizontally and not letting our back shoulder dip down. If you are looking for some extra power in your shot, try to generate it from your arms and torso rather than the hips.
When performing the backswing we want the leading arm (left arm if right handed) as straight as possible throughout the swing. At the top of the back swing the leading arm should be fully extended and parallel to the ground. Once again, keep the hips still. Practice this backswing until it becomes natural. The downswing will usually take care of itself as long as you keep your eye on the ball and your head still.
We want to focus on keeping the leading shoulder straight and down. This will keep your swing on the right track. Do not let the shoulders come up or move back before impact which results in slices and fat golf shots.
Correcting the fat golf shot doesn’t have to be a tough task. It is fairly easy once you break down the golf swing. You can just analyze the swing and see where the problem lies. To get more information on golf fat shot cures click on the links below:
