The key to correcting the fat golf shot is keeping our hips very still so they do not move horizontally and not letting our back shoulder dip down. If you are looking for some extra power in your shot, try to generate it from your arms and torso rather than the hips.

When performing the backswing we want the leading arm (left arm if right handed) as straight as possible throughout the swing. At the top of the back swing the leading arm should be fully extended and parallel to the ground. Once again, keep the hips still. Practice this backswing until it becomes natural. The downswing will usually take care of itself as long as you keep your eye on the ball and your head still.

We want to focus on keeping the leading shoulder straight and down. This will keep your swing on the right track. Do not let the shoulders come up or move back before impact which results in slices and fat golf shots.
