« How To Master The Golf Irons   How To Get A Golf Scholarship »

Possessing a good golf swing is tantamount for playing good golf. Ignoring your swing will crush your game and you’ll be all washed up before you start. You’re responsible for improving your golf swing and it starts and ends with you. Developing proper muscle conditioning and memory for the areas affecting your swing thus helping you implement proper form takes practice. Golfers that find good instructors or golf aids to help them improve their swing are priceless.

Going to the range and hitting more golf balls won’t cut it. Hitting more balls may create additional bad behaviors and strengthen an improper swing. I found that the more buckets of balls I hit at the driving range the worse my swing and anger level became.

Grip, stance and posture – most pros call these the three pillars of a good golf swing. No matter how experienced you are, if you have trouble with your golf swing, chances are you are doing something wrong with your grip, stance or posture – or maybe all three.

For example, by gripping the golf club less tightly and allowing for some flexibility in your grip, it creates more lag. Lag is the angle created by the club and your left hand (right hand in case you’re left-handed) in your downswing.

Addressing the ball will change under different circumstances. Whether the ball is teed up or in the fairway or in a bunker, adding more distance to your shots means less par and a better game. No one wants to end up in the rough or the sand every time they play.

The distance your ball travels is directly proportional to the club speed and a few other variables related to your swing such as balance and form. You don’t have to be a John Daly to have significant impact on the golf ball. It’s guaranteed that if you add speed to your swing, it translates into more distance for your golf ball.

Here are some reasons offered that keep most amateur golfers from increasing club speed in their swing. Increasing flexibility and adopting a lighter grip pressure allows the golfer to swing freer, more fluidly and ultimately faster. Poor technique and improper sequencing also restricts swing speed.

If you increase your club speed, then you increase the distance your ball travels. Age and skill level are not factors, boosting the power supplied by the body will increase swing speed. The power your body is capable of supplying can be significantly improved by performing specific exercises and learning proper form.

All pro golfers know the importance of proper swing technique that is required to realize optimal speed and trajectory of the golf ball. Proper swing is true for teeing off, pitching, chipping and even putting. Serious golfers will do whatever it takes to gain an extra 10 to 20 yards from their swing. The question remains, are they getting the distance they want? What are they doing to get it?
