« Competing in Golf – Tournaments for Any Age or Gender   Thin Golf Shots Gone for Good »

A sure way to improve your short game is perfecting the iron shot. Each perfect iron shot gets you to the green in fewer strokes. Experienced golfers know the distance of they get from their irons. Knowing your average distance in a perfect iron shot allows for proper iron selection and ultimately improves your game.

Not all golfers achieve the same distance with the same irons and not all perfect iron shots achieve the same maximum distance that you might expect. However, learning to drive a perfect iron shot in each swing is still very important.

If you were told to keep your head down with an iron, forget it. Our first tip applies to initial head position. You wont get a perfect iron shot when your head is down, the reality when you do you will generally slice or have a fat shot. A down head also prevents the body from naturally turning into the swing, ultimately making a down head the wrong thing to do if youre looking for the perfect iron shot.

Next we consider posture, keep your chin up and your head aligned with your spine. Always remember that your body makes the swing and a down head hinders your natural swinging flow. Keeping your head up and out of the way, so that your body can naturally turn, guides you to the perfect iron shot.

Club grip and initial swing posture need to be considered when working on the perfect iron shot. For posture, your arms should hang comfortably at your sides and knees are bent, ensuring the iron grip is below your waist line. With the grip, you have to firmly hold the iron but not too tight. To achieve that perfect iron shot, always remember to bend the knees. From initial starting position, you should bend at the knees so that the irons face touches the ball.

Now we consider the backswing when hitting the perfect iron shot. Here you simply need to remember to keep the iron in line with your shoulders. By slightly turning your hips before making contact with the ball, you will provide that extra push to the perfect iron shot you are looking forward to. Here, always remember to keep a full follow-though after contact, until the iron club reaches the back of your head.

By focusing on these tips and taking the time to practice these simple and easy steps, in no time you will be consistently hitting the perfect iron shot.
