Amongst the most well known brands of fairway woods is Callaway – one of the leading manufacturers of golf products. Callaway fairway woods can be broken down into four distinct categories, where each applies to a specific player type.

Phil Mickelson has a Callaway FT Tour Fairway Wood. Phil usually shoots his wood from the fairway to the green, and does it quite effectively. Callaway’s FT series, apart from woods, contains irons and drivers. The two letters – FT – stand for Fusion Technology and reflect the blend of materials that goes into the production of these golf clubs. The company employs stainless steel and tungsten in the Callaway FT series. The FT Tour woods also have an interesting system of altering the weighting of the clubs, called Opti-Fit. This technology allows the players to change the weight settings of their woods easily and quickly, to customize the club for the slice or the fade in the swing.

Another PGA legend is Ernie Els, who uses the X Fairway Wood 19. The X woods have a larger head volume and a shallow but strong steel face to generate ball speed. It also features the X-sole design that gives the club its name and helps shots stay online. Graeme McDowell also uses this series, playing the Callaway Tour X fairway wood.

Next type of Callaway woods is the FT-i Squareway. As the name suggests, the Squareway clubs have a square shape compared to the other series of Callaway woods. The company advises that Squareway series boast the biggest forgiveness out of all their fairway wood series. Rocco Mediate has a Squareway 3-wood in his bag.

What about the lady golfers? Annika Sorenstam has Callaway woods in her bag. She has been seen playing the 15-degree Callaway Tour X fairway woods, and the 5-wood from the same series. She has won numerous competitions in the 2000-2009 decade using Callaway woods.

Lastly, Cristie Kerr plays Callaway Big Bertha woods. The Big Bertha series offer a compromise between forgiveness and ball speed, delivering on both. The Big Bertha woods are a great addition to the Big Bertha driver and iron line.
